Scope of Work descriptions
Job description can be an obstacle if not inaccurate, incomplete and not useful. Writing the perfect job description can become an asset and can describe positions in organizations that provide overall operational view and show that the job description has been designed and analysis as an integral part of the service organization. In the face of developments in science and technological innovation, job descriptions are subject to change. Nurse or midwife manager must maintain in order to remain relevant to the job descriptions of work by improving the periodic and systematic.
The nurse and midwife managers must see that:
1. Job description is a written statement to all levels of positions in nursing and Midwifery units, which reflects the function, responsibility and qualifications required.
2. Revised job descriptions and updated according to the development of science and technology or organizational policy.
3. All clinical positions should be evaluated periodically (6 months or 1 year at all).
Job description development
Job descriptions can be developed via analysis of clinical positions. There are six steps of development:
1. Identify positions
2. Job analysis
3. Analysis of activities of each job
4. Evaluation function through analysis of their performance using the performance appraisals for each position
5. Analysis of performance indicators for each competency
6. Performance appraisal methods (Poline, 1984)
To develop a job description should be considered standard and used by the organization rules. Descriptions of work, authority and responsibility in each position should be clear to clinical nurses and Midwives in providing direct care to patients. There are some specific criteria to develop a job description as follows;
1. Job descriptions must be current and accurate for the required functions and tasks required.
2. Position / title must be clear on the basis of clinical and career conditions set by the organization.
3. Job descriptions and specifications showing the type of work, how and for what jobs are different from each other.
4. Job descriptions should be complete and not detailed, so it can develop and function of the broader task.
5. Design standards for use on all the work for each category.
6. Job descriptions should be realistic for the technical aspects and human resources allow.
The principles of writing and organizing work wisely and contribute to the development of nurses and Midwives are:
1. Organize the work to the needs of logical
2. Define the functions and tasks clear and Concise
3. Start with an active sentence, the verb functional
4. If possible use specific words and clear.
