Art is a concept or name for one branch of art whose form consists of the elements of form are: line, plane, shape, texture, space and color. The elements are arranged into a single form in a certain pattern. Form of art works is the overall way the elements are arranged in a meaningful structure or composition. The elements of such a way as not just a collection or accumulation of parts that are not meaningful, but is made in accordance with certain principles. The meaning of art works is not determined by lot or at least the elements that form it, but from the nature of the structure itself. In other words the overall quality of a work of art is more important than the sum of its parts.
Art works can be divided into two general categories: two-dimensional works of art and three-dimensional works of art. Two-dimensional work of art is a work of art which has only length and width dimensions or works that can only be viewed from one direction of view only. For example, painting, graphic art, illustration art, reliefs and so on. Three-dimensional work of art is a work of art which has dimensions of length, width and height, or the work that has volume and occupies space. Example: sculpture, art crafts, art pottery, art, architecture and variety of product design.
Arts if viewed in terms of its functions can be grouped into two, namely the fine arts (fine art) and art life / applied (applied art). Pure Art is a work of art created solely to meet the artistic needs. People generally create artwork serves purely as a means to express their aesthetic taste. Freedom of expression in the fine arts is preferred. Belonging to the fine arts, namely: painting, sculpture, graphic art and some art crafts.
Applied Arts or arts use (applied art) is a work of art that was made to meet practical needs. Examples of applied art: architecture, posters, ceramics, clothes, shoes, and others. In the manufacture of disposable art usability factors usually take precedence over beauty or artistic factors. Creating works of applied art seem more difficult than pure art. It may have made the work of pure art feels more free than making works of applied art because it does not take into account the function. However, often the opposite occurs, paint can be more difficult than making the residence.
